What is the Teen Artists in Residence program?

Stages Bloomington Teen Artist in Residence is a free 2-semester performance / mentoring program for high school juniors & seniors as well as college freshmen. It offers performance opportunities, in-depth theatre experiences, and connections with theatre experts. No other theatre company in the area offers a program like it!

  

What do Teen Artists do?

Artists in residence serve leadership roles and have performance opportunities in Stages Bloomington main stage productions. Artists also work as staff assistants in marketing and community relations. Program also includes free trips to theatre performances, individual work with an acting coach, sessions with theatre production experts, and artist honorarium.

  

How do I become a Teen Artist in Residence?

Admission is by audition. Applications are available & due in early spring. Auditions take place in early spring with residency beginning in August and running through May. The program is open to teens in Bloomington and surrounding counties with a serious interest in theatre and who have vocal, dance, and acting experience.  For information about deadlines and audition details, email us, or subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to receive our updates.

Who is funding the Teen Artists in Residence program?

Major support was provided by Stages past Executive Director, Pat Gleeson, who created the program. Additional support has come from individual contributions, the Indiana Arts Commission, Bloomington Arts Commission, the Brabson Library and Education Foundation, and IU Department of Theatre and Dance.

  

How can I support the Teen Artists in Residence program?

There are several things you can do:

  1. help spread the word;

  2. encourage interested high school juniors or seniors as well as college students you know to apply to the program; and

  3. donate to Stages Bloomington (write in the "note" area during the PayPal checkout process the intended purpose of your donation).  Or mail checks to Stages Bloomington, P.O. Box 5036, Bloomington, IN 47407.
