Could You Hug A Cactus?

A New Musical

Based on a collection of whimsical poems by Phillip Van Wagoner, Could You Hug A Cactus? is a musical revue that follows a group of kids as they come together to create a show that’s bursting with poems and creativity. One by one, they each share their imaginative creations, until a nervous performer panics and refuses to contribute a poem. Can the cast help him shed self-doubt and ignite a creative spark?

Run-Time:  30 minutes

Performance Premiere: Friday, March 12, 2021

This class is a training program wrapped into the production of a show. While we will meet as a full cast once, most of our training/rehearsals will be in one-on-one sessions with your director, Rory Willats, and assistant director, Lucia Davila.

Our first cast meeting is on Saturday, February 20th from 4:30 - 6:00 PM via Zoom. This first session will be largely dedicated to getting to know one another and answering questions about what this production will look like. During the meeting, each student will receive their scene material including dialogue and/or music.

Signing up for Rehearsal Slots: Each cast member will sign-up for two 20 minute time slots on weekdays, Monday-Thursday. Your time slot will be the same for the entire duration of the production. This time will serve as a one-on-one coaching session with the director. We will use the final rehearsals to record, through Zoom, the polished performances. These will then be edited together for opening night: a pre-recorded, virtual performance.

The final production will premiere on the Stages Special Projects YouTube channel on Friday, March 12th at 6:00 PM.
